The energy efficiency of buildings is now more than ever an important factor of how we perceive and practice architecture. The main goal of architecture nowadays has to be the creation of a built environment that complies with the principles of ecological sustainability. Designing according to that principles means reducing the environmental impacts during the production of building components, during the construction process and during the lifecycle of the building (heating, cooling, etc).
In that section, a theoretical approach of environmental design is presented, as a personal view of issues related to the subject (through articles, case studies and a thesis project), along with evaluation reports of buildings according to their energy consumption.
